WOMEN POWER IN COMICS

Women Power in Comics (WOMCOM) is a collaborative initiative involving partners from Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia, Greece, Croatia, and Montenegro. This two-year programme (2023-2024) aims to foster collaboration and engagement among comic authors and illustrators with the goal of investigating and addressing gender issues in comics as well as empowering female comic artists through residencies, exhibitions, and conferences.

WOMCOM is co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Commission.

MAIN EVENTS & ACTIVITIES

Four residencies in four different countries welcoming a total of forty-eight artistic participations (twelve per residency).

Group exhibitions and participation in festivals, including Novi Sad Comic Book Weekend (Serbia), PesText Festival (Hungary), Stripovanje Festival (Montenegro), Ohoho Festival (Croatia), and Tinta Festival (Slovenia).

Two conferences to serve as platforms for open discussions among artists, creatives, scholars, curators, art managers, editors, publishers, and activists.

A digital platform to serve as a meeting point and a repository of the current comic art scene of the region, with a focus on promoting female comic artists.

A printed anthology that will function as a lasting source of reference and inspiration within the gender-related discourse in comics.
