Klara Kracina (b. 1999) is an academic painter based in Slovenia. In 2022, she graduated with a degree in graphics from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in painting. Her creative practice spans a wide range of mediums, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, drawing, comics, graphics, installation art, and conceptual art. Through her work, Kracina delves into personal explorations of identity, national consciousness, and collective nostalgia, often addressing social issues with a blend of humor and cynicism.
Kracina is also a founding member of two prominent art collectives, "Podmladek" and "Kvadratni meter," which have made a significant impact on the art scene in Ljubljana and across Slovenia. She has held four solo exhibitions, including the 2018 show "Zbirka novel" at Hostel Tresor, which featured linocuts inspired by Roald Dahl's short stories. In 2019, she presented two solo exhibitions at Dobra Vaga Gallery, one of which, "Pet podgan," examined the patriarchal structures in society and the role of women through large-format paintings. Most recently, in May 2023, she exhibited "NOTES" at Dobra Vaga Gallery, a zine publication featuring a collection of lost notes, primarily shopping lists, that she gathered over the years. This project was thematically connected to her undergraduate thesis, where she created screen prints depicting personal items left behind by strangers, crafting new narratives and profiles of these unknown individuals.
In addition to her solo exhibitions, Kracina has participated in numerous group exhibitions at venues such as Dobra Vaga, City Gallery Piran, Švicarija, Mestna Hiša, Equrna Gallery, Mala Galerija BS, and the Gallery of the University of Ljubljana (Galerija UL). She has also been featured in various festivals, including Lezbična četrt/Lesbian Quarter, Ljubljana Pride, Sprehajalci slik/Art Walkers, and has showcased her posters multiple times at the Ment Festival. Her work has been published in the magazine Likovne besede/Art Words, and her comic Penzion appeared in the 82nd edition of Stripburger magazine.
