As part of the WOMCOM 2024 international conference at Kino Šiška in Ljubljana, the traveling exhibition of the WOMCOM residents opened on 7 October 2024, marking the culmination of two years of artistic collaboration and creative exploration. This exhibition provided a platform to showcase the diverse works created by the participating artists during the four residencies held throughout the program.
The exhibition featured the artistic outcomes of all the WOMCOM residents, reflecting the varied experiences and insights gained during each of the four residencies. The first residency took place in Novi Sad, Serbia, from 24 August to 7 September 2023, followed by the second residency in Zánka and Budapest, Hungary, from 17 September to 1 October 2023. The third residency was hosted in Podgorica, Montenegro, from 29 May to 12 June 2024, and the final residency was held in Zagreb, Croatia, from 8 September to 22 September 2024.
Throughout these residencies, a total of 35 artists from across Europe were invited to explore themes of gender, identity, and empowerment, while challenging societal norms and engaging in cross-cultural collaboration. The exhibition offered a unique opportunity to view the fruits of their collective creative efforts, spanning a broad range of artistic expressions that celebrate the power and potential of women in the comics world.
This exhibition not only showcased the impressive work of these artists but also marked the closing event of the WOMCOM program. It celebrated the diversity of female voices in comics, offering a fitting conclusion to a project that has played a vital role in amplifying underrepresented perspectives and fostering greater visibility for women creators in the industry. The opening of this exhibition in Ljubljana served as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact of the WOMCOM initiative and its role in empowering female comic artists across Europe.
